Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA) launches Cliniminds’ Clinical Research Training Courses – Classroom & E-learning – in Chennai

Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), is a unit of Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, set up to offer specialized education and training in diabetes and its complications to doctors, nurses and other paramedical personnel.

Dr. V. Mohan, President, DMDEA, said that DMDEA was glad to launch on 18-Dec-2010 the Educational and Training Courses in Clinical Research (both classroom & e-learning) offered by Cliniminds. Cliniminds is India’s largest and one of the most respected Clinical Research education and training institutes in the world, headquartered at New Delhi. Cliniminds offers over 25 programs in the field of clinical research. Cliniminds offers a wide range of job oriented training and educational programs with strong placement support. Students from Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Siddha, BSc and MSc graduates with Life Science background are ideal candidates for these unique courses. Cliniminds Chennai centre will cater to students from Chennai and surrounding areas

Mr. Kamal Shahani, Managing Director, Cliniminds mentioned that Cliniminds, with its 15 centres throughout India and in Europe, had trained and placed more than 1500 clinical research professionals within the brief 6-year period since its start in the year 2004. Some special features of Cliniminds’ courses were paid industry internships, videoconferencing lectures, top faculty from industry & academia, world class e-learning software, scholarship programs offered for the deserving students and tie-up with HDFC Bank for educational loans. Cliniminds has technical collaboration with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. All Cliniminds programs are certified / accredited by the Pharmaceutical Society of India. Cliniminds also provides training to the National Institutes of Health, United States of America for its Indian clinical research sites. Apart from Clinical Research, courses in Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory Affairs, Biostatistics, SAS, Clinical Data Management, Clinical Trials Management, Medical Writing, etc would also be provided both in the Classroom as well as E-learning mode. The duration of these courses vary from 6 months to one year.

Dr. J. Vijay Venkatraman, Head – Cliniminds, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and Diabetologist & Director, KTVR Group Hospital, Coimbatore remarked that Indian doctors and healthcare professionals have been contributing a lot to the development of science and technology worldwide, particularly in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries. However, guidance and enlightenment about newer avenues for such professionals has been lacking in India. By the year 2014, over 50,000 clinical research professionals would be required to meet the demand of the clinical research industry. With India becoming a favoured destination for Clinical Research, formal education in this discipline is of high demand. To tap this under-explored treasure of career opportunities for all graduates having a science background in this part of the country, Cliniminds has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DMDEA. He was also glad to recall that Cliniminds launched its Tamil Nadu operations by starting its Coimbatore centre as a joint venture with KTVR Vijaydeepa Group on 14-Aug-2010, which is very successful in its educational and placement services in that part of the state. He said that, with these measures, Cliniminds aspired to march towards its long-term goal of supporting original research and development in India.

According to Dr. J. Vijay Venkatraman, who also has a good deal of experience of working for leading players in the Pharmaceutical industry like Accenture and ICON Clinical Research as a Pharmacovigilance Physician & Trainer, the major advantages of Cliniminds programs are:
Practical industry training / internship provided to the students
Excellent placement support
Top faculty from industry and academia
World class E-learning Clinical research education and training software
Cliniminds seamlessly delivers live classroom lectures across all its centres through Cisco WebEx videoconferencing technology. This allows students to receive the best training from the wide range of senior industry trainers irrespective of their location. Scholarship programs are offered for the deserving students.
Approved by HDFC Bank for educational loans.

Dr. Ranjith Unnikrishnan, Director, Medical Studies, DMDEA, announced that the Classes at Cliniminds Chennai centre would start on January 31st, 2011. Cliniminds Chennai centre is located in the heart of the city at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy, 6B, Conran Smith Road, Gopalapuram, Chennai – 600 086. He expressed hope that, with this development, the society will benefit a lot due to the increased availability of expert care in the field of Clinical research.

Dr. R. M. Anjana, Director, Medical Studies DMDEA, stated that a healthcare team was necessary to provide comprehensive medical care to patients and their families. Establishing such an academy for education will not only increase the number of professionals in the field, but also increase research activities and create facilities for specialized care in Clinical Research, according to her. She also mentioned that the following services are available at the Chennai centre:
